Weymouth Civic Society Awards

Each year, members of the Civic Society look out for projects to be considered for our annual awards.

Our famous annual awards recognise amazing contributions people and organisations have made in our five focus areas: town planning and buildings, heritage, lifestyle, arts and culture, and the natural environment. We are always on the look out for potential winners and welcome nominations from our members as well as the public.

Historically, the main focus of our awards has been local building projects completed within the year. We look for high quality new developments, or restorations of historic buildings or new features that make a contribution to the appearance and general quality of its setting.

Nominations may include domestic, commercial or public buildings, and can vary in size from a large housing scheme to a small but noticeable improvement in a ‘tired’ area.

In a year when a principal award is made, WCS presents one of its familiar blue plaques, which the recipient may choose to display on or near the property. Several other awards are invariably also presented, all of which denote WCS’s appreciation of positive contributions to our built environment.

Since 2023, WCS has also presented an award in its four other focus areas: heritage, arts and culture, lifestyle and the natural environment. This expansion of the scheme was very well received and has already become a highlight of the awards season!

If you’ve noticed a wonderful project that has been completed in the year since our last awards ceremony and that falls into any of our five categories, please do tell us about it using the form below.
